Making merit with/without identification

Questions from the audience:

I usually make merit and dedicate to my passed away father.  Sometimes I write his name, sometimes not.  How is it different between making merit with and without identification?  Write his name every time is better because he will get the merit surely.  Is it correct?

Answers:

Every time you make merit and dedicate to your father, he will get it but writing his name is better.  When the monks read your father’s name, they will summon their mind with you and the merit dedicating to him will be stronger.
