Monks from Wat Phra Dhammakaya
helps the villagers fix the broken ridge

Monks and volunteers from Wat Phra Dhammakaya help assisted the Klong 3 villagers to fix the broken ridge between Rapeepat water canals and “L3 - L4 water canals.
As a result, this task has been completed successfully.

Night of the 18th October 2011,  the floodgate of the Rapeepat water canals broke between the floodgates of L3-L4 water canals, which is nearby the 7th left water canal in the Rapeepat 1 community of Klong 4 Tambon.  Although the L3-L4 water canals are small, but they are also drainage ditches toward the Rangsit water canal as well. Due to this reason, the monks and staff members from Wat Phra Dhammakaya, including villagers of Klong 3 sub district Administration Organization were careful at watching the water levels along the Rapeepat water canals 24 hours. (The Rapeepat water canals 1-4 are a total of 8 kilometers in length.)

The main tasks of the volunteers and staff members at Wat Phra Dhammakaya are to pack food and water for victims of flooding. Moreover, their tasks also include packing sand into sandbags to fill into the empty spaces in the flood barrier that were destroyed by the strong current of the flood. The purpose of filling the empty spaces is to reduce and minimize the impacts of the strong current of the flood that is threatening to destroy everything in its sight. The empty spaces are approximately 3-4 meters in length. This required approximately 5,000 sandbags to fill in the empty spaces and help build a strong infrastructure of the flood barrier. This required the time slot between 8:00 pm to 3:00 am. to be able to fix the broken ridge successfully. Therefore, on behalf of the volunteers and staff members at Wat Phra Dhammakaya, we were able to protect Wat Sawang Phob and the 100,000 houses in Klong 3 Tambon from the strong flooding current.

While working on site, Phra Soontorn Jarusantalo from Wat Phra Dhammakaya, which is the head of the team members fell into the water and was swept away by the strong current. However, he was able to regain his balance and has continued his duty of supervising. In the end, the whole team was able to protect the Rapeepat water canal successfully.
